Getting back into the swing of things with your preschoolers after the holiday season can be rough.
Everyone is a little out of sorts, everyone is tired from all of the traveling and holiday festivities, and getting everyone back into their normal routine can be a struggle.
But finding fun, new ideas to add to your normal routine like songs, finger plays, and nursery rhymes can make the transition back from the holiday break a little easier and these five little snowmen puppets make the perfect addition to your circle time routine!
Five Little Snowmen Puppets
Now, for us, our January preschool themes include lots of winter fun, especially activities that include snowmen!
They’re absolutely adorable and honestly, who doesn’t love snowmen?
Now, take those snowmen, turn them into puppets, and pair them with a fun winter song like five little snowmen and it gets even better!
A winter themed rhyme like this one is a fantastic way to kick off your new year circle time and it’s such a fun way to get your toddlers or preschoolers engaged and learning!
It’s also perfect for introducing new concepts or to review ones that you’ve already started working on!
This particular winter poem not only works on simple counting but introduces the concept of subtraction as well.
As each of the snowmen melt away, your preschoolers will have to figure out how many remain until there are none left.
Five Little Snowmen Printable
Included in this five little snowmen download, you’ll find the lyrics sheet for the song, five snowmen puppets, and one melting snowman puppet.
And getting these printables ready to use in your classroom couldn’t be any easier!
We printed our snowmen puppets on card stock so that they wouldn’t fall over or bend too easily and cut them out.
Finally, we used a hot glue gun to attach a craft stick to the back of each little snowman.
These adorable little snowmen puppets make the perfect visual to pair with the poem during circle time, but if you’d rather use them as a small group or quiet time activity, try printing them on some magnetic paper and pairing them with a cookie sheet for your students to use instead.
Once the glue has dried, all you’ve got left to do is play!
Start with the five regular snowmen and replace one of them with the melting snowman puppet when you reach the part of the song where the sun pops out.
Your preschoolers are going to love counting backwards and watching as the snowmen slowly melt away as they sing through the song!
If you’d like to play a snowman song for your students instead, we’ve included a few of our favorite five little snowmen videos below and any one of them would make a fantastic addition to your morning circle time!
