While the snowfall that we had here last week wasn’t anything to write home about, it was pretty exciting for my southern babies who rarely see any real winter weather.
It didn’t take long though before the novelty of real snow wore off and the idea of playing outside, in below freezing temperatures, was no longer appealing.
I can’t really say that I blame them as they are used to the sun and the heat and it was downright freezing for a few days.
But, of course, that meant that we needed to find ways to not only occupy our time, but also burn off some energy, while staying warm inside the house.
And that is where a little creative thinking and a few winter boredom busters come into play!
There are so many ways to ward off cabin fever when the winter wind is blowing and the best part? You can get the whole family involved!
Have a Movie Marathon
Have each member of the family pick out their favorite, family-friendly, movie, pop some popcorn, and snuggle into the couch for a day of laid back family memories.
There is nothing better than spending a lazy day on the couch when the snow is falling outside and who knows, maybe you can introduce your kids to some of your favorite childhood movies!
Hold a Family Game Night
Board games, card games, even video games if that’s more your family’s thing. Pull out a stack of games and settle in for a night of fun!
It doesn’t matter who wins and who loses, all that matters is that you’re spending quality time with your family making memories that they’ll never forget.
Build a Fort
Need something a little more hands-on? Grab some pillows, blankets, chairs, whatever you have and spend the afternoon building a fort with the kids.
Add a flashlight and a few books and you might just find that you can go for hours without hearing the dreaded “I’m bored!”
Cook or Bake Something
Getting the kids into the kitchen with you can be a ton of fun for everyone involved. Just making dinner together can create some of the messiest, most enjoyable memories with your little ones that they’ll look back on for years to come.
Of course, if your kids are anything like mine, they’re going to want something to snack on with all of these ideas.
I mean it just wouldn’t be a proper movie marathon or family game night without some snacks right?!
One of our favorites? Goldfish crackers!
They’re always baked with real cheese, contain no artificial flavors or preservatives, and they’re a snack that you can feel good about serving to your kids.
