From witches and werewolves to vampires and more, if your kids enjoy Halloween as much as mine do, they’re going to love working on their reading practice with this printable Halloween costume party emergent reader!
What started off as a set of fun Halloween themed coloring pages last year, turned into a fun sight word book that is absolutely perfect for this spooky holiday!
Initially, I was looking for a fun way to work a little more sight word practice into our days as the kindergartner is currently working his way through learning a few of those. Specifically, right now, the words I, see, and a.
This short, printable book gave us the opportunity to do just that while preparing for the upcoming holiday.
Each page of the book contains a single simple sentence using those simple sight words and a picture to color.
The book itself contains six pages, after the cover and a page for your child to add their name of course.
The first five include pictures of various Halloween costumes including a witch, a vampire, Frankenstein, a werewolf, and a mummy. The sentence on each page begins with the words I see a, with the final word being the name of the costume, which your child should be able to figure out based on the picture.
The final page asks the reader what they will be dressing up as for Halloween and includes plenty of space for drawing a picture of your own Halloween costume.
For young preschoolers, this makes an excellent Halloween themed coloring book, and for older ones that are beginning to learn how to read, this little book makes a fantastic starting point.
Their eyes light up when they realize that they recognize and can read all of the words on the page.
