When your little ones are first born, they need you for everything. Literally everything. From feeding them, to changing their diapers, and comforting them when they cry.
As they start to grow though, they not only learn how to do certain things on their own, but they prefer it.
My kids are pretty much perfect examples of this. My oldest wants to do everything all by himself and my youngest wants to be just like her big brother.
As hard as this is for me, as a mama, I know that teaching them to be independent and responsible is what will help shape them into strong and capable adults.
Out of all of the areas that they’re pushing to do things themselves, one in particular happens to be just a little easier for me to agree on, snack time.
With 2 growing kids, it is inevitable that someone is always hungry and you’ll always be able to tell when one of them is experiencing a growth spurt.
Of course, they want to be able to get their snacks on their own and, for once, I’m totally okay with it! If I wasn’t, I’d spend my entire day getting someone a snack.
Now, this doesn’t mean that it’s okay for them to just snack all day long without regards to meal times and it doesn’t mean that cupcakes or cookies are okay for everyday snack times. Even if they’re choosing their own snacks, I want to make sure that the choices they have are wholesome and filling.
Enter, our snack bin!
Sitting on one of the lower shelves in our pantry, this snack bin gives them the opportunity to choose their own snack (and get it for themselves), which makes them happy, while choosing from the wholesome options that I filled it with, which makes me happy.
From organic popcorn to granola bars and even some graham crackers (the littlest one’s favorite), these snacks will fill them up and keep them going until lunch or dinner time rolls around.
When they’re finished with their snack and are looking for something to drink, the other half of the bin is filled with our juice drink of choice, Capri Sun Organic!
It’s the perfect counterpart to our snack choices! It contains no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, has no added sugar, is certified USDA Organic, is made with 66% fruit juice, and contains 100% recommended daily value of vitamin C.
The kids love it because of the great fruit flavors, they come in Fruit Punch, Tropical Punch, Apple, and Grape and can be found at retailers nationwide for $4.29 per 10 pack of 6oz. pouches, and parents love them because they make it easy to strike the right balance between giving your kids what they want to drink and what’s good for them.
These Capri Sun Organic pouches work perfectly in our pantry snack bin or in the snack drawer in our fridge that holds things like veggies, string cheese, and more.
Whether we’re looking for a quick snack before we head back outside to play or we’re taking them with us on the go. I know the kids are enjoying not only their snack but gaining a little independence as well and I’m enjoying that they’re both getting a full serving of fruit.*
*Each pouch provides 1/2 cup fruit juice which is one serving of fruit according to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines.
