As we continue our rainbow theme, I have been trying to come up with activities that will not only keep Nicholas entertained but that will challenge him as well. Activities that we haven’t done before.
Taking my cues from him and the fact that he has been really into puzzles lately, we took a little trip to the craft store and found exactly what we needed to create a puzzle of our very own!
Quick word of advice… Check the size of the puzzle before you actually bring it home 🙂
I quickly realized that I hadn’t been paying attention when we got our puzzle home only to realize that it is 3 feet wide!
Which, by the way, made Nicholas very happy 🙂
He thought his “big big puzzle” was pretty cool!
Deciding what kind of puzzle we wanted to create was easy! Since we’re in the middle of a rainbow theme, why not make a GIANT rainbow!
In case you can’t see the yellow and green crayon throughout, Nicholas had a blast coloring the rainbow and was so excited that he got to color on a puzzle 🙂
I was a little worried that he would have trouble with it since there were so many pieces but once we drew and colored in the rainbow, he completely amazed me by putting it together!
Of course, there were a pieces that he needed some help with but he finished it!
And then…we proceeded to take it apart and put it back together 3 more times.
I loved that we were able to incorporate a number of skills, like problem solving, critical thinking, and some fine motor, into a single activity that was completely different from anything we’ve done before. And since we’re still putting it together at least twice a day, I think it’s safe to say that he loved it as well.
